Those who were not martyred by the bombing, continued struggling death in cold. The horrors and tragedies multiplied. This is the situation of thousands of displaced people in dilapidated tents and shelters that are not suitable for human use, as a result of the crimes of genocide committed by the occupation in Gaza Strip.
The displaced people in Gaza Strip welcomed the new year with grief and sadness, in tents flooded with rainwater, and with children freezing to death, after nearly 15 months of genocide committed by the occupation, and the resulting humanitarian disasters. The humanitarian reality of the displaced is tragic, amid the lack of heating, fuel, clothing, blankets, and the absence of any permanent solutions to improve their living conditions.
Winter is no longer a normal season for the most Gazans. The war of extermination waged by the occupation against them has stripped them of all means of protection, and left them to face their fate, under the harsh air depression, as 6 infants were martyred during a week due to the severe cold.
Anadol Agency reported that the massive damage to sewage and rainwater drainage networks as a result of deliberate and systematic Israeli targeting has further complicated the situation. The occupation has destroyed about 175,000 linear meters of sewage networks and 15,000 linear meters of rainwater networks, while the siege on the Strip continues and fuel and electricity supplies have been stopped.
This caused sewage and rainwater to flood dozens of homes and shelters, in light of the municipality's limited capabilities and its inability to deal with all cases, due to the lack of equipment and basic materials, and the occupation's refusal to bring in the equipment and machinery required to deal with the disaster. There is also a risk of flooding of the Sheikh Radwan pond for collecting rainwater in northern Gazaand this in turn also poses an additional risk.
Last Tuesday evening, a trought reached the Palestinian territories on Sunday evening, accompanied by heavy rains and a cold air mass.Displaced people in Gaza were working hard to repair their tents that were flooded by rainwater, and to find temporary primitive solutions to alleviate their suffering while cold to very cold weather continued.
The number of martyrs among the displaced people inside the tents reached to 7, including 6 children, due to the frost waves, amid international warnings of an increase in the number of martyrs for the same reason, and due to the lack of shelter in light of the continued bombing. It is noteworthy that the severe cold has exacerbated the suffering of the displaced people in Gaza Strip, especially Rafah and Khan Yunis cities, where they are unable to buy basic necessities due to the lack of money, after they lost their sources of livelihood since the beginning of the occupation's aggression.
