Under the directives of His Excellency Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, under the patronage of His Excellency the Head of the Department of Refugee Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Abu Houli, and with the supervision of the Secretary of the Popular Committees in Lebanon, Dr. Sarhan Sarhan, the Popular Committee in Al-Bass Camp commemorated the 77th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba in front of the UNRWA Center in Al-Bass Camp on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The event was attended by the leadership and cadres of the Fatah movement, the leadership of the PLO factions in the Tyre region, Lebanese and Palestinian national and Islamic forces and parties, popular committees, prominent figures, and a large crowd of Palestinian citizens.
The celebration began with the recitation of Surat Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs, followed by the playing of the Lebanese and Palestinian national anthems.
Then, Ali Al-Jamal, Secretary of the Popular Committee in Al-Bass Camp, spoke, saying:
Dear brothers and sisters, each by name and title, with due respect to all...
On May 15th of each year, we commemorate the Nakba of our Palestinian people, which began in 1948, when more than 750,000 Palestinians were displaced from their land, hundreds of villages were destroyed, and massacres were committed in an attempt to uproot us from our land and change our landmarks and identity.
The Nakba is not just a memory; it is an ongoing reality that we have lived for 77 years in the camps, in exile, and under an occupation that continues to attempt to displace us and falsify our history.
Today, we are experiencing a renewed Nakba, after a year and a half of ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem, aimed at displacing our people once again as part of a plan to establish a purely Jewish state.
Despite the wounds, we will remain faithful to our pledge and our promise, planting hope and resisting with all forms of resistance until the sun of freedom rises, our independent Palestinian state is established with Jerusalem as its capital, and the refugees return to their homes, whether they like it or not.
Mahmoud Awad, a member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine's leadership in the Tyre region, delivered a speech in which he said:
Dear brothers and sisters, each by name and title, with due respect to all...
On the anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, we salute the steadfastness of our Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. We salute their steadfastness in confronting the barbaric aggression and thwarting the goals of the occupying entity with their steadfastness and perseverance. He reiterated that the will of the people is unbreakable.
He called for ending the division and restoring and strengthening national unity within a unified struggle strategy under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of our people.
He saluted the Palestinian resistance, with all its military wings, and the Lebanese national and Islamic resistance, for their steadfast and supportive stance on the Palestinian cause. He stressed the need to maintain the security and stability of the camps, and held UNRWA accountable for its responsibility to care for our people under these exceptional circumstances.
