Baghdad – Under the directives of H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas and with the support of the Department of Refugee Affairs in the Palestine Liberation Organization, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Iraq has distributed financial grants in the form of "rent allowances" to 300 families of Palestinian refugees residing in Iraq.
Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Iraq, Dr. Ahmad Al-Ruwaidi, stated that the distribution of the grant was carried out with the attention and follow-up of President Mahmoud Abbas and H.E. Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, Head of the Department of Refugee Affairs. The grant included as many vulnerable families of Palestinian refugees in Iraq as possible, selected by a joint committee comprising the embassy and the Palestinian Popular Committee in Iraq. The grant covered families from all Iraqi provinces.
Ambassador Al-Ruwaidi noted that the distribution of the grant reflects the Palestinian leadership’s commitment to improving the conditions of refugees, including continued communication with Iraqi officials to pass laws and decisions that contribute to improving their temporary residency conditions in brotherly Iraq. He pointed out that the Iraqi government has expressed, on several occasions, its intention to enhance the living conditions of Palestinian refugees.
The Palestinian Popular Committee in Iraq extended its gratitude to President Mahmoud Abbas, H.E. Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, and Ambassador Ahmad Al-Ruwaidi for this much-needed grant, which helps alleviate the financial burdens on vulnerable families. The committee praised the coordination between the committee and the embassy, especially the efforts of Ambassador Al-Ruwaidi, who, during his tenure in Iraq, has actively engaged with official Iraqi institutions to improve the situation of Palestinian refugees and secure special grants for vulnerable families and students from refugee communities.
