- Dr. Abu Holi: Palestinian camps in Syria are a top priority for the President and the Palestine Liberation Organization
===========================
Dr. Abu Holi explained that the number of families benefiting from the financial assistance is 3,534, stressing that the distribution process will be conducted directly and securely through banks, ensuring that the funds reach those entitled to them with complete transparency.
According to Dr. Abu Holi, the beneficiary families fall within the category of Palestinian refugee families who are below the extreme poverty line and have no source of income. He noted that they were selected according to specific conditions and criteria, through a committee supervised by the Department of Refugee Affairs, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Syria, the factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the Relief Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Dr. Abu Holi praised the efforts of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Syria, who is closely following the conditions of Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian camps in Syria and his supervision of the work of the committee listing the names of Palestinian families benefiting from the financial assistance.
Dr. Abu Holi stated that 90% of Palestinian refugees in Syria live below the poverty line, and that 40% of the 438,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria remain in a state of long-term internal displacement.
He emphasized that monitoring the conditions of Palestinian refugees in Syrian camps and working to improve their living conditions are a top priority for the Palestine Liberation Organization and President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine.
Dr. Abu Holi indicated that the Department of Refugee Affairs, through its office in Damascus and in coordination with Ambassador Rifai, will continue to work to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees in Syria. It will also work to meet the essential needs of some camps in coordination with UNRWA and official Syrian authorities, especially the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees in Syria.
Dr. Abu Holi emphasized that there is coordination with the General Authority for Palestinian Refugees in Syria to improve the situation in Palestinian camps, address their problems, and improve the living conditions of Palestinian refugees.
Dr. Abu Holi emphasized the vital role and services UNRWA provides to Palestinian refugees through its core programs, which are indispensable and irreplaceable. He called on UNRWA to strengthen its social safety net by providing the Relief and Social Services Program with sufficient budgets to meet the needs of Palestinian refugees, and to increase the value of its cash, food, and in-kind assistance and not resort to reducing it. UNRWA benefits more than 423,000 Palestinian refugees residing in Syria.
