Stockholm – Sweden
The Popular Unions of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Sweden (the Community Union, the Women’s Union, and the Workers’ Union), with the participation of PLO factions, held an official meeting with Dr. Ahmad Abu Huli, member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Refugee Affairs Department, along with Mr. Taysir Nasrallah, member of the Palestinian National Council and the Revolutionary Council of Fatah, in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.
During the meeting, participants discussed the role of Palestinian communities in Sweden and across Europe in supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and strengthening the presence of the Palestinian cause in international forums. They emphasized the importance of these communities as the first line of defense in conveying the Palestinian narrative and countering attempts at misinformation and distortion of facts.
The meeting also addressed the serious implications of the suspension of international funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing that UNRWA is not merely a service institution but an international witness to the Nakba of the Palestinian people and a fundamental pillar in safeguarding the right of return as stipulated in UN Resolution 194. Participants affirmed that targeting the Agency constitutes a direct assault on refugee rights and an attempt to remove their cause from the agenda of political solutions.
Discussions also covered the situation inside the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly the escalating attacks by the occupation and settlers in the West Bank, and the widening scope of systematic violations against our people. The meeting further addressed the ongoing genocidal war waged against our people in the Gaza Strip, targeting civilians and infrastructure in blatant violation of all international norms and conventions.
The meeting also reviewed the conditions of Palestinian refugee camps in the diaspora, and the humanitarian and political challenges facing our people, which necessitate strengthening the national role of PLO institutions, supporting refugee resilience, and preserving their identity and rights.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants underscored the importance of strengthening the unity of the Palestinian community in Sweden and enhancing coordination between the popular unions and PLO factions, in a manner that bolsters national efforts and serves the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
