Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Head of the Department of Refugee Affairs, received today in his office Ms. Stiopanka Stanik, Director of the “CASP” program implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation and prospects for supporting Palestinian refugee communities.
Dr. Abu Holi briefed attendees on the strategy of the Department of Refugee Affairs and its field vision across the five regions (the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria). The meeting also addressed coordination for holding upcoming technical meetings with the participation of host countries and GIZ, aimed at discussing mechanisms to improve the living and service conditions of Palestinian refugees in the homeland and the diaspora.
During the meeting, Dr. Abu Holi stressed the historical and vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), affirming that its role “is indispensable and cannot be replaced,” as it represents the fundamental pillar for the stability of refugee communities and the political witness to their cause. He emphasized the need to continue supporting the Agency to ensure the uninterrupted provision of its essential services.
For her part, Ms. Stiopanka Stanik expressed her aspiration to enhance technical cooperation between the two sides by supporting the strategic role of the Department and contributing to the implementation of its strategy, as well as developing programs and initiatives that help empower refugees and improve their quality of life. She also expressed her appreciation for the close cooperation that serves the most vulnerable groups in the camps.
Participants in the meeting from the Department of Refugee Affairs included Deputy Head Anwar Hammam, Director of the Head’s Office Abdul Karim Al-Ajrami, and International Relations Expert Mai Ouda. Also attending from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) was Mr. Sami Marra.
