Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Head of the Department of Refugee Affairs, stressed the vital role of the media in raising awareness of the rights of refugees and displaced persons and in conveying the truth about their humanitarian issues. He emphasized that responsible media serves as a fundamental tool for protecting human dignity and promoting justice.
His remarks came during his participation in the webinar organized by the Islamic Cooperation Broadcasting Union (ICBU) under the title "The Role of the Media in Raising Awareness of the Rights of Refugees and Displaced Persons," held on the occasion of World Refugee Day 2026.
Abu Holi explained that the issue of Palestinian refugees continues to face growing humanitarian and political challenges, calling for strengthened international solidarity and joint action to protect refugees' rights and provide them with the necessary support.
He pointed to the difficult conditions endured by Palestinian refugees wherever they reside, stressing the need for continued international efforts to safeguard their rights and support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as a manifestation of the international community's responsibility toward their cause.
The Head of the Department of Refugee Affairs stressed that the media bears a significant responsibility to provide professional and humanitarian coverage of refugee issues, highlight their suffering and rights without marginalization, and contribute to building global awareness of humanitarian issues.
He also called for strengthening cooperation between media and human rights institutions across the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to launch initiatives that support the causes of refugees and displaced persons and reinforce the values of solidarity and human dignity.
