Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Head of the Department of Refugee Affairs, met today, Thursday, in his office with Ms. Philida Strahan, Head of Development at the British Consulate General in Jerusalem, to discuss the latest developments related to the Palestinian refugee issue, UNRWA’s financial crisis, and the operational and political challenges facing the Agency.
Both sides reaffirmed the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as the UN-mandated agency responsible for serving Palestine refugees in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 302, stressing that it is an indispensable UN agency whose mandate and responsibilities cannot be replaced or dispensed with.
They also stressed the need to support UNRWA by securing adequate and sustainable financial funding to enable it to carry out its mandate in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 302.
